The new Albertinum in Dresden -  “the ark for art”

This 450- year old monumental building (near the Brühlschen Terrace) in Dresden already underwent a major modification in the 19th century: turning it from an armory into a museum.

Since 2006 an even more enormous change is taking place! After large parts of the historic old-town of Dresden had been flooded in 2002, the museum decided to incorporate a flood resistant art-depot into the renovation plans. The Berlin-based architect firm Büro Staab developed the design for “the Ark for Art”, a two story building that floats like the ark above the Albertinum’s atrium.

stabaArte is in the process of installing depot sliding panel systems on both levels of this spectacular building. The completed system will accommodate the Dresden State Art Collections on 10.000qm of storage surface, allocated in 7 depots in both, the new and old building.
